Giclée printing

The word Giclée refers to the process by which digital images are printed onto archive fine art paper or canvas with the intention of faithfully reproducing an original painting.

In practice the final result can only be as good as the digital file. This could be a high resolution scan of a large format transparency, or a direct scan of a painting, (see capture). For accuracy colour management needs to be applied throughout the process.

After capture the image is matched to the original which involves colour profiling and proofing. Once agreed with the artist, a print is kept on file at our studio for reference. This ensures that identical prints can be ordered many years after the original has been sold.

Our Giclée prints are produced on professional wide format printers. They are virtually identical to the original and are resistant to fading due to the use of light fast pigment based inks.
